Gyokuro is a type of shaded green tea from Japan. Gyokuro is shaded for approximately three weeks, which results in a sweet fragrance.
This green tea was selected for its superior quality and flavor. It is grown in the Uji district in Kyoto, the most famous tea growing region in Japan. Gyokuro is one of the most expensive types of sencha available in Japan.
Uji is located south of Kyoto City, famous for Byodoin Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Uji is a green tea and matcha lover's paradise.

This is the first time I've tasted gyokuro. It tastes better than the sencha I get from my local Japanese store.
This tea is AMAZING! It's the most vividly green tea I've ever tried. It's rich, has a subtle sweetness, and a smooth vegetal umami flavor. There is also a slight bitterness that is well balances with all the other flavors. I have a feeling it'll hold up to being iced, but drinking it warm is just so cozy, and it's instantly become a favorite.
Nicely packaged! It's a gift so can't rate the tea. The next package will be for me!
Looks great!

Hikaru Dento Hon Gyokuro | 50g
Tasting Notes | A tea full of natural umami without bitterness.
This dento-hon gyokuro is the perfect example of the amazing green teas that Yame area can produce. It combines extraordinary sweetness with powerful umami. Without any bitterness, this tea is ideal to discover the joys of gyokuro, but will also delight experts.
The most renowned plantations in Fukuoka prefecture are located in Yame area. Morning mists and river fogs are very frequent. Curtains of fog wrap green tea plantations, properly blocking sunlight. This helps in generating more amino acids (including theanine, glutamic acid, arginine, etc.) within the tea leaves. In addition, Yame enjoys an inland climate-high temperature during daytime and very cool and low temperatures at night.
Handpicked and following the traditional covering technique with natural rice straw mats called “sumaki” this Gyokuro has also received the G.I. (Geographical Indication) label. A must-have for all Gyokuro enthusiasts. Please take extra care with the brewing instructions, as it has to be prepared with a low temperature over a long period of time. It can be re-brewed several times like all of our teas with slightly higher temperatures (60c then 70c for a third re-brew).
The Hikaru Dento Hon Gyokuro | 50g is seasonal and only has limited harvest per year.
