Hagi-yaki Pottery (萩焼, Hagiyaki) is one of the most famous pottery types in Japan. The skills for making this craft was imported into Japan from Korea in the early 1600s. Hagi ware flourished during the Edo Period (1603-1867) and was highly prized as tea wares for the tea ceremony.

Called a Macha-wan, these ceramic large teacups or bowls are typically used to make matcha green tea (with matcha powder and a chasen whisk).

From matcha lovers to people who are not already a matcha fan, matcha bowls are an essential component to the Japanese tea ceremony, but of course, they are used for enjoying matcha at home.

"The Philosophy of Tea is not mere aestheticism ... for it expresses conjointly with ethics and religion our whole point of view about man and nature. It is hygiene, for it enforces cleanliness; it is economics, for it shows comfort in simplicity rather than in the complex and costly; it is moral geometry, inasmuch as it defines our sense of proportion to the universe." - Kakuzo Okakura

Artisanal matcha bowls

Both matcha bowls are beautiful. One is a bit smaller than the other, which I suppose is just wabi sabi. Nicely packed. Overall great experience.
